Tell our state officials: No drilling near our drinking water!

State officials are considering rules to allow gas drilling in the New York City watershed -- endangering the drinking water of nine million people.

Gas drilling releases toxic chemicals, methane and contaminated wastewater — all of which can leach into our water supply and pose a huge threat to public health.

Now it's your turn to weigh in. New Yorkers' outcry against drilling was so intense that officials extended the public comment period until Dec. 31, 2009. Sign our petition and make your voice heard now.

Enforcing the Clean Water Act

From Oregon to Michigan to Rhode Island, we have stopped more illegal polluters with litigation under the Clean Water Act than any other non-government entity in the nation. Read more.

Dear Commissioner Grannis:

We are deeply concerned about threats to New York’s drinking water from gas drilling. A process that uses toxic chemicals, generates millions of gallons of wastewater, and has already contaminated water supplies in other states does not belong anywhere near the place that more than 9 million people rely on for drinking water. We urge you to protect New York’s drinking water by barring gas drilling in the watershed for New York City and issuing the most stringent safeguards for drilling elsewhere in the state – including a ban on using toxic chemicals for drilling elsewhere.
